Routine appointmentsand How Our Appointment System Works
Thamesmead Medical Associates operates a total triage system. This means that all requests for help are first reviewed before an appointment is arranged so that patients can be directed to the most appropriate clinician or service and urgent problems can be prioritised.
You can contact the practice by submitting an online consultation form through our website or by calling reception. If you are unable to complete an online form, our reception team will be happy to assist you and can complete the form on your behalf.
Once we receive your request, it will be reviewed by our team with clinical oversight from a GP. Depending on your needs, we may arrange a same-day assessment, offer a routine appointment with a GP, book you with another member of the clinical team such as a nurse, healthcare assistant or allied health professional, or provide advice or signposting to another appropriate service.
After your request has been reviewed, our reception team will usually contact you to arrange the appointment. In some cases you may receive a secure self-booking link by text message so that you can book the appointment at a time that is convenient for you.
In some situations, we may reply by text message with advice, information about a self-referral service, or guidance about other services such as community pharmacy that may be able to help with your concern more quickly.
We aim to provide patients with an appropriate response on the same day or the next working day depending on the urgency of the request.
Routine appointments are usually offered within one to two weeks. If you would prefer to see a particular clinician, please state this on your online form or let the reception team know when you contact the practice. We will always try to accommodate this where possible, although waiting times may be longer if you choose to wait for a specific clinician.
If you have an urgent medical problem that cannot wait, please contact the surgery by telephone so that our team can ensure your request is reviewed promptly. If you believe your condition is life-threatening, please call 999
We recognise that some patients may need additional support to access our services. If you have difficulty using online systems or require a reasonable adjustment due to a disability, language barrier or other need, please speak to our reception team who will be happy to assist you
Cancelling or changing an appointment
If you no longer need your appointment or cannot attend your booked appointment, we have a dedicated cancellation line – please call 020 8333 5019
Home Visits
Our doctors would be able to see 4 to 5 patients in the Practice in the time it takes to do a single home visit. Therefore we encourage patients to come to the Practice if possible. Home visit requests are reserved for housebound, disabled and terminal care patients.
Primary Care Network Enhanced Access Services
This service offers telephone and face to face appointments with a GP or Nurse. Appointments can be booked through your GP practice and you may be seen at another practice within our Primary Care Network. The Enhanced Access GP will have access to your GP record and can deal with most general practice problems, but they will not usually be able to arrange blood tests, X-rays or referrals to hospital services
Our Primary Care Network is called Riverview Health PCN and consists of the following practices:
Conway PMS (44 Conway Road, Plumstead, SE18 1AH)
Gallions Reach Health Centre (Thamesmead Medical Associates to Bentham Road, Thamesmead, SE28 8BE)
